What is the difference between uninterested and disinterested? " Disinterested " and " uninterested " have  different  meanings, but people are starting to confuse them. Grammar Girl has a trick for getting them right. October 31 draws ineluctably closer and with it the prospect of, " Brexit " actually happening. The monumental rearguard action undertaken by the Remain campaign to sabotage ,delay ,impede and ultimately eviscerate Brexit as the legitimate democratic expression of the UK electorate in the EURef 2016 - has been to all intents and purposes successful! There is, of course a price to pay for all their shenanigans and in all likelihood it will be a very heavy one. The new session of the european parliament convened in Strasbourg the other day. And with it,the EU entered the decisive phase of diplomatic/political horse trading to get its new  leaders in place. Ultimately, it is the heavy hitters France and Germany and their mutually respective and fluctuating allies that influence/stage manage /cobble together sufficient votes in the parliament to give their imperial appointees at least some veneer of legitimacy. There are 1,001 vastly more challenging issues and problems that ought to be occupying our attention, but still it all comes down to being stuck in the Leave /Remain quagmire. I'm sure that the likes of Thomas Cromwell had pretty much the same view about how the Reformation was panning out in the 1540s. May 23rd might turn out to be significant after all.These are first elections to be held for UK MEPs to the EU  "parliament" since we officially,legally and constitutionally departed the EU on March 29 2019. We've come a long way since the last time these "elections" were held in 2014.Then again nothing much has changed.
